WORKSHOP: Myofunctional Orthodontics: From Early Diagnosis to First Practical Steps. A modern approach for the pediatric dentist.
Register!
Malocclusion affects nearly 9 out of 10 children and is rarely just a problem of “crooked teeth.” More often, it is the symptom of incorrect myofunctional habits. This intensive, half-day workshop is designed for the modern pediatric dentist who wants to move beyond treating the symptom and start addressing the root cause. We will learn how to recognize the signs of myofunctional imbalances, perform a practical evaluation, and take the first steps with the MyOsa/Myobrace® system—a protocol that integrates myofunctional therapy with orthodontics to guide healthy craniofacial growth and achieve stable, long-term results.
Target Audience:
* Pediatric dentists.
* General dentists who treat developing patients.
* Orthodontists new to the myofunctional philosophy.
* Dental hygienists and assistants aiming to support the
clinician within the protocol.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
* Recognize the clinical signs of the main orofacial dysfunctions (e.g., mouth breathing, incorrect swallowing, poor tongue
posture).
* Perform a basic myofunctional-orthodontic evaluation, including breathing tests (like BHT, Steps) and the Payne Test.
* Understand the philosophy behind the MyOsa/Myobrace® system and the logic of the different appliance series (J, K, T, etc.).
* Learn to communicate the value of a cause-based approach effectively to parents.
* Plan the first steps to integrate the protocol into their own practice, from the first visit to delivering the first appliance.
* Identify when treatment aids like Myolay are indicated for more complex cases.
*Part 1: The “Why” – Foundations of Myofunctional Thinking
* Welcome & The Paradigm Shift: Moving from structure to
function.
* The Real Causes of Malocclusion: How to spot dysfunctions and their impact on growth.
* The Diagnostic Toolkit: A practical guide to evaluating breathing, tongue posture, and swallowing.
* Coffee Break
*Part 2: The “How” – First Steps with the MyOsa/Myobrace® System**
* Introduction to the MyOsa/Myobrace® system: Philosophy, appliances, and the role of Myobrace Activities.
* The First Visit that “Sells” the Treatment: Communicating with the child and parents.
* Case Studies & Practical Application: Analyzing successful cases and learning how to start simple.
* Q\&A and Closing Remarks.
Duration : 4-5 hours
