Presenting safe minimal and moderate sedation in your practice

Summary:
Pediatric dentists use behavior management techniques  with all their patients being that many of them, due to severe pathology and or need of   difficult and potentially painful treatments and in many cases past negative experiences associated with  dental fear and anxiety, would benefit from minimal and moderate sedation to ease anxiety, regain trust and performing higher quality treatments.
Not all pediatric dentists have received the training , both theoretical and practical ,  needed to perform safe sedations.
This session wants to empower the pediatric dentist to gain knowledge on safe minimal and moderate sedation for their patients benefit with an emphasis in how to present sedation to parents and or legal guardians so they understand its benefits and agree to its use

Objectives:
– Understanding dental fear and anxiety
– Understanding the need for precise terminology when incorporating sedation in your pediatric dentistry practice
– Definition of the levels of sedation: minimal, moderate , deep sedation and general anesthesia – The rescue concept and the safe sedation concept
– Nitrous oxide sedation: objectives of its use, indications, contraindications and complications – Learning the minimal and sedation technique with nitrous oxide and oxygen sedation  – Learning to present minimal and moderate sedation to parents to gain their acceptance
